The Digest
Jeremiah Ecks is only a shadow of the man he was 7 years ago when his wife was blown up in front of him. Since that time he has quit the FBI and let his life slip away. He is slowly drinking himself to oblivion when his former boss Julio Martin (Miguel Sandoval) shows up to coax him back into work. It seems that Jeremiah's wife isn't dead, but he won't tell Jeremiah anything until he finds out why former DIA agent, Sever (Lucy Lui) is going after an electronic assassination device.
Jeremiah confronts Sever only to find out that not does she know where his wife is, but that she is also out to take down her former boss, the head of the DIA, Gant (Gregg Henry). But why?
The Dish
We all know that the more things that blow up, the happier I am. With that in mind, Ballistic didn't disappoint. I was even more impressed when I learned that the actors did most of their stunts and no blue screens or computer generation was used. I loved the fight scenes and the quiet strength of Lui's character. But, that is where the praise ends.
All of that wasn't enough to save this movie from itself. What little dialogue there was, it tended to be absolutely horrendous. There were huge plot holes and even after you acknowledge that this is a summer action flick, some stuff was just too unbelievable to reconcile. It was more than a bit painful. Especially half way through the movie when it gets all mushy and family orientated. Blech.
The Directive
Worth renting if only to see Lucy Lui kick some butt, but that is about it.
This movie is bad enough to make you want to go ballistic on Hollywood
