It's a rarity when I actually agree with anyone else's top ten anything. For the most part, though, I couldn't find much fault with the fans who selected their favorite Schoolhouse Rock songs at the Schoolhouse Rock DVD official site.
Still, no Bammer review would be complete without my own spin on things. So without further ado, I give you: Bams' Top Ten Schoolhouse Rock Jams:
- Conjunction Junction
and
- I'm Just A Bill:
Hard call on these, though; they really should be a tie. CJ might win solely on the basis of its slightly more catchy tune.
- Ready Or Not, Here I Come:
I never really caught on to "Lolly". But this count-by-five segment had a lot going for it, especially in its rockin' tempo, and the aforementioned "race exchange".
- Electricity, Electricity:
Whether sung by Zachary Sanders or Goodness, this one always makes me bob my head.
- Interjections!:
Trivia time: the kid with the flu was Tom Yohe, Jr. - son of the original animator, and creator of "Boothy". Most def a chip off the old block.
- The Preamble:
Tell the truth: how many of y'all used this song to remember those words in history class? I know I did.
- Three Is A Magic Number:
Hey, if Nike can co-opt it, it's good enough for me.
- Figure Eight:
Sorry, but I can't stand "Interplanet Janet". Besides, the dreamy vocals by Blossom Dearie in "Figure Eight", were sad but beautiful.
- A Noun Is A Person, Place Or Thing:
I agree with the Schoolhouse Rock producers: composer/singer Lynn Ahrens did know how to tell a good story - here, and on Broadway.
- No More Kings:
C'mon, this is the America Rock jam you gotta go with to end your top ten!
- Telegraph Line/Them Not-So-Dry Bones/Three Ring Government:
Ok, so I can't count; maybe it's Multiplication Rock time for me. But I had to pick this trio as honorable mentions for the visuals of (respectively) the nervous system, the way bones connect, and Congresscritters as clowns.
Agree? Disagree? Coolness, either way. Use the feedback form below to let me know what your favorite Schoolhouse Rock Jams are, and I'll post them here.
