"I'm only a writer and all I have to show you that I love you are my words." - Alex Sheldon

CASS' CLIP (WARNING: **spoilers below**)
Alex Sheldon (Luke Wilson) has a bad case of writer's block. Alex is also a pretty bad gambler who is currently indebted $100,000 to his Cuban financers. They gave Alex one year to pay up and now, just 30 days shy of becoming fish bait, these loan sharks unexpectedly show up and physically remind Alex that they still want their money. The only way Alex knows how to repay his debt to these thugs is to get an advance from the publisher/editor (Rob Reiner) of a novel he has yet to write.

Alex hires Emma Dinsmore (Kate Hudson), an opinionated stenographer, to transcribe an insufferable story set in 1924 about a writer, Adam Shipley (also played by Luke Wilson), who is in love with two totally different women -- Polina Delacroix (Sophie Marceau) and Polina's au pair, Ylva, Elsa, Eldora and Anna (also portrayed by Kate Hudson).

Who the heck cares?

DA 411
Alex And Emma is another dumb movie, and Hollywood's continued attempt to make Kate Hudson the next darling of romantic comedies. Stop already!!! Moviegoer Kristie Lebeau, says, "Alex And Emma was not remotely better than When Harry Met Sally." As far as considering this a possible movie rental, "Probably not," she warns. The overall performances by Wilson and Hudson are so bad, I 'almost' felt sorry for them. Then I got mad when I realized that I contributed my $5.00 to the millions these actors were paid to star in this movie.

The only thing slightly interesting about Alex And Emma is the premise that this movie is loosely based on -- Fyodor Dostoevshy's short novel, The Gambler. Dostoevshy was a compulsive gambler, who fell in love with the stenographer he hired to help him finish his novel.

THE END

CASS' CONCLUSION
Alex And Emma lacks two important ingredients to be a romantic comedy movie -- romance and comedy.
