On March 8, The Biography Channel gets behind the wheel of an exciting and original new series produced in conjunction with NASCAR IMAGES, NASCAR DRIVEN TO WIN(sm). Offering up-close-and-personal profiles of some of the racing circuit’s most popular young drivers, the series delivers an “under-the-hood” glimpse of life both on-and-off the track.

Comprised of 13 half-hour episodes, NASCAR DRIVEN TO WIN will debut new World Premiere episodes each Wednesday during March at 10pm ET/9pm CT/11pm PT. The series launches with the premieres of KASEY KAHNE and KYLE BUSCH (10:30pm ET/9:30pm CT/11:30pm PT); March 15 revs up with premieres of CARL EDWARDS and GREG BIFFLE (10:30pm ET/9:30pm CT/11:30pm PT).

NASCAR DRIVEN TO WIN will focus predominantly on younger drivers striving to become part of the NASCAR elite. Each episode will delve deeply into the lives and minds of the drivers, before they become household brand names, concentrating on man more than machine. Through in-depth interviews and coming-of-age stories, viewers will discover each driver’s greatest achievements and biggest thrills, as well as their scariest moments and biggest rivalries. We’ll hear about their struggles and their dreams, as they sacrifice everything for a chance to reach the pinnacle of their profession. We’ll also hear from team owners, crew members, friends and family, as NASCAR DRIVEN TO WIN examines the need for speed of a new breed of driver determined to succeed at all costs.

The first four episodes, certain to capture the excitement and attention of racing and sports fans, feature two of NASCAR’s most promising newcomers: KASEY KAHNE, the 2004 Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year; KYLE BUSCH, the 2005 Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year and; CARL EDWARDS, a two-time Nextel cup winner on the rise, and GREG BIFFLE, an 8-time Nextel cup winner with the 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship and the 2002 NASCAR Busch Series championship already under his belt.

NASCAR DRIVEN TO WIN: KASEY KAHNE
World Premiere Airing on March 8 at 10:00pm ET/9:00pm CT/11:00pm PT

Never in the history of NASCAR’s top series has a rookie made the kind of splash that Kahne (Evernham Motorsports, Driver #9, Dodge) did in 2004. From old school gearheads to a flock of new female fans, his appeal was instant. When he was hand-picked by car owner Ray Evernham to replace retiring legend Bill Elliott, many longtime NASCAR fans questioned the move. But Evernham, the man who turned Jeff Gordon into a champion, knew talent when he saw it. And a look back into Kahne’s amazing sprint car career reveals what Evernham had known all along. Kahne is a classic wheel man, whose impact has expanded off the track, as well. Armed with a media-friendly smile and steel blue eyes, he introduced NASCAR to a whole new legion of fans. Yet, with a wave of endorsements and high-profile publicity, would his on-track accomplishments be overshadowed? Interviews include Kahne, car owner Ray Evernham, family visits in his hometown of Enumclaw, Washington and more.

NASCAR DRIVEN TO WIN: KYLE BUSCH
World Premiere Airing on March 8 at 10:30pm ET/9:30pm CT/11:30pm PT

Following in his brother Kurt’s wheel prints, Busch (Hendrick Motorsports, Driver #5, Kellog’s Chevy), began racing at 13. After a flurry of accomplishments, he joined the driver ranks with his brother’s team, Roush Racing. In a move that shook the world of NASCAR, Busch left Roush for its rival, Hendrick Motorsports.. Shortly after turning 20, Busch became the youngest race winner in NASCAR’s six-decade history. Weathering the pressures of racing with strong family support, Busch may just be ready to assume the mantle as the future of one of NASCAR’s most powerful teams. Interviews include Busch, his family, and visits to his hometown of Las Vegas, the tracks he ran his first races on and his high school – a place he graduated from after his first NASCAR contract was signed.

NASCAR DRIVEN TO WIN: CARL EDWARDS
World Premiere Airing on March 15 at 10:00pm ET/9:00pm CT/11:00pm PT

Rarely has a driver come along that represents the complete NASCAR package better than Carl Edwards. His smile lights up rooms. His “aw shucks” Midwestern attitude wins hearts in an instant. His boy next door charm appeals evenly to men, women, and corporate America. And on top of all that, he started winning in Nextel Cup early and often. Since the beginning, Edwards has always had the ability to keep focus on his racing dreams. When he was able to find a ride at local short tracks, he ran up front. When he wasn’t able to find employment, he became a self-promoter, handing our business cards that read simply “Carl Edwards, race car driver” and taking out ads in racing trade magazines stating “Put me in your race car this weekend, have helmet will travel”. When given a chance, he won races in bunches, catching the eye of the ever-searching car owner Jack Roush. By 2003 he was in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and by 2004 he had been named to replace Mark Martin upon his planned retirement at the end of 2005. But when a Cup ride came open at Roush one year earlier, Edwards was in the big leagues 18 months earlier than planned. No problem. He won at high-speed Atlanta in just his 17th career start, edging vet Jimmie Johnson by inches and celebrating by doing a backflip off the roof of his Ford Taurus. The fans were hooked. Off the track, Edwards spends his time in the weight room, on his motorcycle, and visiting various children’s homes across the country. Sounds too good to be true? It isn’t. NASCAR’s next true superstar has arrived. Interviews include Edwards, his family, mentor and local short track legend Howard Hall and more.

NASCAR DRIVEN TO WIN: GREG BIFFLE
World Premiere Airing on March 15 at 10:30pm ET/9:30pm CT/11:30pm PT

Somehow, someway Greg Biffle has managed to sneak up on NASCAR Nextel Cup series fans as a title contender in 2005. His easy-going manner off the track has always allowed him to fly beneath the radar, but that laid back personality turns into an ultra-competitive champion on the racetrack. From the unlikely racing home of Vancouver, Washington, Biffle toiled on local racetracks on rainy Pacific Northwest short tracks. But soon, NASCAR’s well-designed feeder system was working on his behalf. Local NASCAR championships led to regional rides. And during NASCAR’s version of winter baseball – the Winter Heat Series in Tucson, Arizona – he received a career break straight out of Hollywood. Then-ESPN analyst Benny Parsons was so impressed with Biffle’s abilities he started lobbying on the driver’s behalf within the Nextel Cup ranks. Soon Parson had convinced NASCAR owner Jack Roush to give Biffle a look for one of his multiple driver development rides in the Craftsman Truck Series. He won NCTS Rookie of the Year honors in 1999 and the title in 2000. Soon, he replaced Mark Martin in Martin’s all-time race winning Busch Series car. Again, he won R.O.Y. and the championship in back-to-back seasons. Now, as a Nextel Cup contender, his in-race radio conversations with crew chief Doug Richert are a lesson in modern stock car mechanics, making on-the-fly strategic decisions in what has become a popular destination for race fans with radio scanners. A friendship and partnership that may lead to Biffle’s 3rd major NASCAR title.

Upcoming episodes will focus on other up-and-comers including RUSTY & STEVEN WALLACE, BRIAN VICKERS, the RICHARD CHILDRESS RACING TEAM and more. Tune-in each week to see how these young drivers have dealt with their new fame and fortune on “NASCAR DRIVEN TO WIN,” where the checkered flag is just the beginning.
