The Digest

(Official press release):

The thrilling clock begins to tick again, but this time – the terror comes from within! Jack Bauer is back and ready to right the wrongs of the Country’s most powerful and surprising enemies when the “24” SEASON FIVE DVD Collection explodes onto DVD December 5th from Fox Home Entertainment. Recent winner of five Emmy® Awards including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Kiefer Sutherland), the highest-rated fifth season of the critically-acclaimed series speeds onto DVD with another countdown of adrenaline-charged drama that will have viewers on the edge of their seats for another 24 hours of action and suspense. One of the most innovative and thrilling drama series on television, the gripping fifth season of “24” featured even more plot twists and body count than anyone thought possible, along with several new faces to the cast including Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings trilogy), Peter Weller (Robocop) and Jean Smart (“Designing Women”) as First Lady Martha Logan, whose stellar performance garnered an Emmy® Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Packed with thrilling bonus features including a DVD exclusive Season Six prequel, insiders look at the show’s 100th episode, deleted/extended scenes, cast & crew commentary, four behind-the-scenes featurettes, exclusive DVD-ROM content and more, the “24” SEASON FIVE seven-disc DVD set will be available December 5, 2006

Synopsis:

Eighteen months after faking his own death, Jack Bauer is forced to return to Los Angeles when it becomes apparent that the only four people who know he is still alive are being systematically targeted for assassination. The assassinations coincide with the signing of an anti-terrorism treaty between Russia and the U.S., leading Jack to suspect a link between the assassinations, the treaty, and a group of Russian terrorists. But as events slowly unfold it becomes apparent that the day’s horrific events were originally set in motion by someone within our country’s own administration – an individual with the power and resources to thwart Jack’s every move.

The Dish

The first time I watched 24 was I think Season Two. It was a marathon and I was mesmerized. I tried to follow it up with the next season and I just couldn’t get into it. It wasn’t as gripping for me with a week in between the hours. When I was watching the Marathon it was heart pounding and exciting. Keeping up with it week to week, not so much. Especially when I really realized that it was minute to minute in real time and his daughter was getting beating and nearly raped, ran down, jailed… all in 2 hours. About once a season. Now to my point, watching it in a marathon on DVD is so much better. It really is hart pounding and exciting when you are watching it uninterrupted. I really recommend watching the DVDs over the weekly show.

The Directive

I’m sure Fox will not appreciate this, but really watching this on the DVD is 10 times better than watching it on a weekly basis..

I now understand, why this show and it’s performances win so many Emmy’s. Astounding, really.
