The Digest

(Official press release):

Walt Disney’s Academy Award®-Winning Nature Series TRUE-LIFE ADVENTURES Ground Breaking Films in Four 2-Disc Volumes Debut December 5 from Walt Disney Home Entertainment Bonus Materials include Roy E. Disney Introductions & Backstage Look at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Additional Nature Films, Revealing Documentaries and More The True-Life Adventures -- a series of 13 groundbreaking films that captured the wonder of animals and nature and won eight Academy Awards® -- epitomize the magic of Walt Disney. In classics such as “Seal Island,” “The Living Desert,” “The Vanishing Prairie” and “White Wilderness,” Walt blended his unique sense of innovation with creativity and technology to put together films that brought fascinating insights into the world of wild animals as well as attention to the importance of conserving our outdoor heritage. The acclaimed series makes its long-awaited DVD debut from Walt Disney Home Entertainment on December 5.

True-Life Adventures is the first release in the new “Walt Disney Legacy Collection,” which will offer a unique group of films from the Disney archives with some timeless discoveries personally produced or supervised by Walt himself. Most of the films have rarely been seen; some have never been seen. Subsequent “Walt Disney Legacy Collection” titles, scheduled for release throughout 2007 and beyond, will be announced in the coming months.

Extensive Bonus Features The films in the True-Life Adventures series are fully restored and beautifully presented in four, 2-disc volumes with collectible packaging and extensive bonus materials. Each volume includes introductions from Roy E. Disney, one of the series’ original filmmakers, who also hosts six segments entitled “Backstage with Roy Disney at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.” These are insightful interviews with wildlife specialists from the 500-acre theme park, long considered a direct offshoot of True-Life Adventures. Each volume also includes revealing documentaries and inside stories about the men and women behind the True-Life Adventure cameras and the extraordinary efforts that went into the creation of the series. Disney artist and historian Stacia Martin hosts four “Collectors’ Corners,” in which she talks about the merchandise and ancillary material associated with the series. Finally, as an added bonus are other well-known Disney nature films, not released under the True-Life Adventures banner but made by many of the same filmmakers in much the same style.

The Digest:

The Dish

Anyone born before 1980 has probably seen parts of this series. I remember being enthralled at all of the wild life footage the stop gap filming of flowers opening or ants building a colony. Each picture told in such a way for young ears to easily digest and film in such a way to keep young eyes focused. .

The Directive

These DVDs are pretty harmless and 100% informative. And I must say, packaging alone makes it worth the buy for the collector. Each DVD is inside of a film tin for a long walk down memory lane.
