The Digest

James Bond is a secret agent for MI6 which is equivalent to our CIA. Anyway he is a 006 – one kill away from the top spot of 007. He gets the kill and is elevated even though M (Dame Judi Dench) doesn’t believe he is ready for the task. After a botched attempted interrogation, she is proven right and he is put on administrative leave. This doesn’t stop him from continuing his mission which is to find the notorious Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) who is suspected of bankrolling terrorists in a variety of questionable, sometimes dangerous and occasionally deadly ways.

His investigation leads him to a high stakes poker game that he hopes to join and with the help of MI6 accountant Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) . Having thwarted one attempt, it is his hope to win the high stakes poker game and take away all of Le Chiffre’s money so he can not provide it to the terrorists. But at what risk? His life? Lynd’s?

The Dish

I have seen every single bond movie at least twice , but I don’t remember details about them, for the most part, anyway. I remember them by theme song and that is about the extent of my expertise. Oh and I’ve never read the books. Seriously, you can give me a plot and I will have no clue, but give me the theme song and I can figure out who the bad guy is and other plot points. Until now. Admittedly, I was PISSY about the dismissal of Pierce “Born to be Bond” Brosnan. Bond isn’t blond! What are they thinking? Craig is easy on the eyes, but he is not super sexy! They are ruining the franchise! I’ll never watch another Bond movie again!

I’m such an idiot! Thanks in part to the 10 minute rule, not only will I NOT forget this Bond, I loved this Bond. What’s the 10 minute rule? It’s when the first 10 minutes of a movie grabs you and rocks your world. Like The Matrix or Blade. Mattafact, I think the first 20 minutes rocked my world. Daniel Craig was the anti-bond. Now some people have told me that his portrayal is just as it was written in the books. But for me, I’ve only been presented with what we see in the films, so from my perspective, he is the exact opposite of what I’ve gotten used to. And I loved every minute of it. He was almost a thug., but it worked. This move erased all preconceived notions about this character and it’s almost as if we are starting from scratch. This Bond can remake the previous 21 and I don’t think I would complain. The only weird thing for me was there not being a “Q” or any other really nifty gadgets. His car was equipped with some interesting things, but its pretty normal.

Besides no “Q” there’s no Moneypenny either. Felix Leiter makes an appearance in the form of Jeffrey Wright, which I understand is an old friend of Bond’s in the books.

If I had one complaint it would be the opening credits, and by extension, the song. I really disliked it

The Directive This franchise is now energized and I can not wait for the next entry.
