The Digest

My favorite Spy/Ex-CIA operative, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon), is on the move again. He is still a wanted man and he is still trying to find his true identity. In the process, he has made the CIA nervous and now the black ops division, led by Noah Vosen (David Strathairn), has stepped up and rather than bringing him in, Vosen has decided to just kill him. But Bourne has help on the inside - Pamela Landy (Joan Allen) putting both her career and maybe her life at risk.

Jason is globetrotting as he heads Moscow, Paris, London, Madrid, Tangier, and New York. In London, he meets Simon Ross (Paddy Considine ), a reporter for The Guardian. Simon is on to something and has been uncovering the truth about Jason, this put Simon in harms way and this complicates things. Jason has to keep both Simon and himself alive, so he can debrief Simon. The same goes for Nicky. As always, their paths cross, and this time Nicky is even closer to Bourne’s truth than before. This puts her life in danger, too. So of course Jason has to keep her alive as well.

Can Jason save himself and those around him and find out who he was and why he became a killing machine?

The Dish

It is no secret that I love the character of Jason Bourne. He is not perfect, he is a killer. Point blank. But how can you not love him? How can you not love his story? The adrenaline rush that his life. But aside from that his story is always compelling and exciting. I’m invested in this character. I get hopping mad at what they’ve done to him and I want revenge. BUT I am a little torn because when he pieces everything together, what happens next? I’m so selfish when it comes to this, hoping he stays in the dark so I can have more movies. See how much I love this character? There are 5 books, 2 written posthumously by another author. Never having read the books, I don’t know if they are worthy sequels, but from what I understand the movies depart from the books, so it doesn’t matter anyway. So they can make another one. Please? I know Matt Damon loves being Bourne. I also know that he feels like he is not healing as fast as he used to and is slowly down a bit. But there has to be hope.

In fact I really like all of the characters Pamela Landy is a brilliant, strong, and capable woman. Vosen was deliciously evil.

Director Paul Greengrass understands this franchise and deftly delivers a film that he should be proud of. If this is the end, it is wrapped up beautifully.

I could watch this series over and over again. Matt has expressed that these movies are physically challenging ( and in watching the Featurette you find out that he in not lying), so he can’t do it forever, but I sure would like to see another 2 or 3 of these. The DVD just proves how well crafted these movies are. This is the 3rd one and the franchise is still strong. There aren’t but 2 or 3 other franchises you can say that about. And there are two more Bourne books out there…..

The extras are perfect for a film geek like me. All the behind the scenes and background featurettes were almost more than I could handle!

It is a given that I would encourage you to buy this one. In fact, when they release the box set, and they would be foolish not to, make sure you buy it.. font color = black>
