The Diva's DVD Review of FlashForward ( 2010)

The Diva's review of
FlashForward DVD(2010)

The Digest

For 2 minutes and 17 seconds on October 6th, the entire world stopped in its tracks. This lost of consciousness showed everyone a glimpse of their life, 6 months into the future. This may sound like a good thing, but it’s not. Despite the death and destruction caused by the incident, some people saw some not so neat stuff, or neat stuff, or nothing. Those who saw nothing realize the reason they saw nothing is because within the next 6 months, they die. One who saw quite a bit is, FBI Special Agent Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes). He sees himself knee deep in unraveling the mystery of the who started the flash forward and why. A recovering Alcoholic, he sees himself drinking again because of the pressure to solve the case and the realization that his marriage to Olivia (Sonya Walger), a surgeon at the local hospital has unraveled. His partner, Special Agent Demetri Noh (John Cho), didn’t have a flashforward. So while trying to figure everything else, they are also trying to keep him alive. Assistant Director Stanford Wedeck (Courtney B. Vance), heads the FBI L.A. unit, code named, Mosaic. They’ve taken point on the operation and have been building a database of the flash forward trying to discern some kind of pattern.

Other key members are Aaron Stark (Brian F. O'Byrne), he is Mark's AA sponsor and close friend. His daughter was a soldier in Afghanistan and was killed in service in Afghanistan but he saw her in his flash forward); Special Agent Janis Hawk (Christine Woods), who sees herself pregnant into her flash forward, problem is, she’s a lesbian and not in a relationship; and Lloyd Simcoe (Jack Davenport), is a widower caring for his autistic son and somehow involved in the blackouts. He also sees himself in love with Mark’s wife 6 months into the future.

All of these people play a part in figuring out how and why the event happened and figure out if another one from happening.

The Dish

I’m not sure where things went wrong with this one. I really enjoyed the first 3 or 4 episodes, but then around week 11, I noticed that I had 6 or so episodes to catch up and I wasn’t really interested in finishing up. I noticed a change in pace and maybe the writing, but nonetheless, I was not interested at all.

I did, however, sit down and watch the DVD from start to finish and I felt the same way, until about episode 16. The pacing picked back up and I was once again fascinated with the show. I thought I would be sad with it ending after one season, but truth be told, I thin it wrapped up nicely and further, I can easily see myself not really being invested enough to watch the show for another season. Perhaps a miniseries or 2 hour movie to address everything that is hinted at when the date catches up with flash forward. Maybe wanting see what happened to everyone after the 6 month mark. There was also a date mentioned at the end. I would be happy just skipping ahead to that one too.

The Directive

This DVD may answer some questions for you since the television run was interrupted, but there is nothing earth shattering revealed in the DVD if you stopped watching it mid way through.
