The Digest

Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes)  rushes into a bar/restaurant with one thing on her mind, she is going to tell her  her blind date, Harrison Wright (Columbus Short), that she is not interested. She didn’t want to stand him up so she schlepped all the other there to let him down gently. But the jokes on her, it’s not a date it’s a job interview and not just any job, one working for the infamous D.C. Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington).

So who is Olivia Pope? She is only the most powerful women in Washington D.C. She has the ear of The President and the respect of Russian mobsters. She fixes problems. She makes sure that whatever mess you’ve gotten yourself into goes away and she’s REALLY good.  And so is her team:

Huck (Guillermo Diaz): Tech guy. Apparently there isn’t a computer that exists that he can’t break into.

Stephen Finch (Henry Ian Cusick): He’s a cad, but he’s good. He's a litigator and has a knack for finding a legal loophole to benefit their client.

Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield): The team's investigator I don’t know her true value just yet, I hope they flesh out her character more.

Harrison Wright: Well aside from being the recruiter, a lawyer and AWESOME orator, I’m not sure of his worth either just yet.

US Attorney, David Rosen (Joshua Malina): He is not on the team, but he aims to foil Olivia at every turn. Especially since not all of her clients are completely on the right side of the law.

Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry), who is the President’s Chief of Staff calls her to help the President. Seems that an aide named Amanda Tanner (Liza Weil) is claiming he's sleeping with her, and Cyrus wants Olivia to take care of it. After she talks to the President face to face, she believes him and agrees to handle it. She sets out to make it go away and threatens to destroy her. But Quinn says she believes the woman and she mentions a phrase that shakes Olivia to her core. We find out that Amanda isn’t lying.  And we also find out that Olivia herself was the paramour of the very married President. Olivia has ONE rule for her clients “Do not lie to me.” Well The President just broke that rule and now it’s on. Amanda is her client now and Olivia is not playing.

The Dish

Shonda Rhimes sure can write! I’ve always watched Greys, but never watched “Private Practice” I just could not seem to care for the main character, Addison. But “Scandal”? I’m there every Thursday and I’ve told everyone I know. Aside from being well written and compelling, it’s ground breaking. Black Twitter was alla twitter today because the statement was that Olivia is the first black female lead on television in 30 years.  I called B.S. and shenanigans on that and started to list off every one that I know of and it turns out that they were all leads of *COMEDIES* I could not think of one Black female lead of a drama on network (not cable) television. Not one and then I became depressed. Then I watched the show and was no longer depressed because this is not going to be a one season show. Nope. This show is GOOD and we are going to see smart and powerful black woman leading a show for quite some time. I love this show!

The Directive

I wish Olivia wasn’t so stupid over a man and I wish there wasn’t the woman scorned angle, but it’s not going to stop me from watching it and it should stop you either.
