The Diva's recap of
Grimm Season 1 Episode 1 (2011)

Season 1 Premiere Airdate: 10/28/11

The Digest

The show tells the story of Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli,) has been living a fairly normal life as a homicide detective in the city of Portland, Oregon. Well it was normal until recently.  Nick has been seeing things. He looks at people and the look like ghouls or animals. He isn’t sure that he is really see what he is seeing. Maybe he’s just tired. He tells no one  Not his girlfriend Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) or his partner Hank.

Even as Nick and Hank are investigating the murder of a college co-ed, he doesn’t mention anything. He wants to just concentrate on finding the murdered student and hopefully the visions will go away. Not likely. The woman who raised him, Aunt Marie (Kate Burton) pays him an unannounced visit. She’s frail – the cancer is eating her alive. Without notice she is attacked on the street by what everyone sees as a mna, but Nick sees as a monster. Aunt Marie kicks his ass, but she is gravely wounded.  But she does manage to tell him that he the last of Grimm’s. The Grimm Fairytales written by his long ago ancestors, were not fantasy stories. They were real and they existed. Now as a Grimm it is his job to keep humans safe. He is a hunter and he must eradicate these monsters. He comes across one of these monsters, a Bludebad (sp) who he actually befriends and who shows him the ropes.

With the Bludebad’s guidance, Nick  tracks down the killer/kidnapper and manages to save the latest victim. Job well down. Doing his job as a police detective is just he least of his worries now, he is a Grimm and he has the balance of good and evil in his hands.

 The Dish

I’m a little on the fence with this one. It was entertaining and exciting, but where is it going? There seems to be some behind the scenes machinations going on. I think people are hiding secrets and not everyone is who they seem –even the obvious ones – well obvious to Nick anyway. I’d love for the story to pick up its pace a bit. My favorite character is The Bludbad, I think his name is Eddie (forgive me but this is like the 12th new show I’ve watched in about 3 weeks and the names are starting to run together) . I also appreciate the heavy use of German words, it adds a air of mystery to the story.

The Directive

I hope moving forward the plots are a little tighter and the acting is a little more polished.
