The kids are in bed ... the candles are glowing ... the wine is chilled ... now there's just one thing left to complete the seduction: what CD do you start up?

Currently spinning at the Cooper residence:
-Dragonfly Summer by Michael Franks
-Imaginary Voyage by Jean-Luc Ponty
-Tenderly by George Benson

well, if I *had* a man (am I bitter?) this is what I'd like:

Angie Bofill's greatest hits
Incognito Positivity "still Waters" mmmm
anything with Michael Franks, I agree Bams
Bobby Caldwell--anything
Jerry Butler-For your precious love
Distant Lover--Marvin Gaye
Billy Vera- At this Moment, True Believer
Marc Anthony--Hasta Ayer
Almost anything by Randi Crawford

I actually have made my own tapes for such an occasion (was that TMI?)

BTW, PBS stations are running a 60-70's R&B
concert to get you to pledge. DO NOT MISS IT

i usually pop in the following:

Smooth Grooves Vol. 2 (i think) featuring Lenny Williams, New Birth, Isley Brothers, The Delfonics, etc.

Al Green-Still In Love With You:. i always put "Simply Beautiful" on repeat.

The Delfonics Greatest Hits AND The Delfonics (self-titled album from 1970): ya can't go wrong with these cats. sometimes i drive home from work playing "I Gave To You" and my heart explodes with joy when i think about my wife Ilayna and how much I'm a better man because God gave her to me.

Marvin Gaye-Let's Get It On (the album): i'm gonna have to get that 2 CD special edition because the original is way way way too short. everything from "Come Get To This" through "Just To Keep You Satisfied" is intense.

------------------
...and that's all i have to say about that.

The problem with the afore-mentioned "Smooth Grooves" discs is one of continuity, the same as I described in the "Break-Up Songs" topic. The individual songs are great, but the odd combination of heartache songs with romance songs diminishes the overall ability of the CD to create a "mood". The best bet is to burn your own, but if you're looking for a studio CD to suit your purposes, I'd recommend "Beautiful Ballads", a compilation from the Isley Brothers. It'll pretty much leave you breathless.

I was kinda disappointed. The music itself is awesome, but the program plays like a big infomercial, which, I guess it is.

Yeah, PBS had a Doo-Wop show which ran for 2 hours and too bad this one didn't last as long. But of course, If you "Ordered now" you could have seen more performances like the Chi-lites.

The Stylistics sounded incredible though.

*Back to topic*
"Cherish the Day" is the only tune (so far) that I've had experience with.
God bless you, Sade.

Saw 'em. I love Russell Thompkins (who turns 51 later this month, which means he was all of 20 when the group first hit it big in mid-'71!) and The Sylistics. Of all the great r&b/soul "Philadelphia Sound" groups of the early '70s, they may be my favorites (but you can't go wrong with any of the others).

Heavenly vocals.

My "Top Five" Stylistics tunes:

1. "I'm Stone in Love With You"
2. "Betcha By Golly Wow"
3. "You Make Me Feel Brand New"
4. "Break Up To Make Up"
5. "You Are Everything"

Of course, the great Thom Bell and the gone-too-soon Linda Creed co-wrote all of those songs.
