Opening up all the entertainment doors...what's new and good in the music field these days? I've started listening to spinner.com and have fallen hard for salsa (whoda thunkit?), but with all the variety of stations they have, I want to have my horizons expanded so...all forms of music are welcome for this discussion.

Well, not new artists, but some suggestions:

Bjork
Massive Attack

If you like classical (with a little twist), you should check out some of the movie scores. Some of my favorites are:

Kundun - Phillip Glass
The Thin Red Line - Hans Zimmer
The Red Violin - John Corigliano
Empire of the Sun - John Williams
Glory/Legends of the Fall - James Horner
The Mission - Ennio Morricone
The English Patient - Gabriel Yared
Eve's Bayou/Caveman's Valentine - Terence Blanchard
Vertigo - Bernard Herrmann
The Paino - Michael Nyman
Titus - Elliot Goldenthal
The Lion in winter/Dances with Wolves - John Barry
Portrait of a Lady - Wojciech Kilar

I believe I've been trying to tell you it was addictive for years....
As a rule, new salsa stinks, but there are
a few good soNeros out there. Gilberto Santa Rosa, Mark Anthony come to mind. But for the real thing, you need "Siembra" by Willie Colon&Ruben Blades, something from Hard Hands himself, Ray Barreto, Johnny Almendra y los Jovenes del Barrio or los Pleneros de la 21 for real Afro-Boricua soul, or some DLG for kicks..

I LOVE music. Right now I'm really feeling 3 artists- as in I listen to them every day like THAT.

1. Res- If you haven't heard her, you need to. I love her vibe; it's like R&B with a performance artist-y thing. Very cool.

2. Incubus- Keep an open mind. Brandon Boyd is a great singer and their music is just good, like alternative with plenty of musicality and a dash of hip hop. I just bought their new CD, but the old one make yourself is on my changer and will be for a while.

3. Bubba Sparxxx- I didn't think I was really going to like him; I admit I was wondering if Timbaland wasn't just looking for another white rapper. But he seriously comes across with his own thing- Bubba Talk lol- and the production is hot. I love Dirty South and this is definitely on.
